What to expect if you book a place at the Library
Please read the information below, especially the days and times we are open, before booking your desk by emailing us, with a preference of desk if you have one. Please indicate in your message which Inn you are a member of.
Please do not visit the Library if:
- you have any symptoms of coronavirus (a high temperature, a new, continuous cough or a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste)
- you are waiting for a coronavirus test result
- you have tested positive for coronavirus – this means you have coronavirus
- you live with someone who has symptoms, is waiting for a test result or has tested positive
Please see the NHS website for more information.
The Library is currently housed at 10 Fetter Lane on the 5th Floor. Please note that social distancing measures are in place and hand sanitisers are available for visitors to use on arrival.
You will be required to wear a face covering when moving around the Library or interacting with others. You do not have to wear a face covering when seated at your desk.
When you reach the Library on the 5th floor please ring the bell and a member of Library staff will let you in. We have removed the signing-in book (but will need to confirm your contact details on arrival).
Important information will be posted throughout the Library, explaining what we are doing and why. There are some temporary floor markings to take note of, specifically indicating waiting areas.
The enquiry desk will be staffed but it will look a little different. Perspex screening has been installed to ensure face-to-face enquiries are safe for both users and staff.
Desks must be booked in advance in hourly slots on your chosen day. The Library will be open from 10.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. during September. You will be assigned a reader place and where possible we will try to accommodate user preferences. Please see the map to choose your desk (1-10) if you have a preference.
Desks and accompanying computer equipment will be cleaned with antibacterial products between users.
We are unable to quarantine heavily used books as this would lead to in-demand books being regularly unavailable.
Disposable gloves will be provided for users needing to handle print material.
For the foreseeable future the daily newspapers will not be available for browsing.
Given the limited space available in the photocopier room there will be only one copier in use, so that social distancing guidelines can be adhered to. If you need to copy materials it is advisable to email firstname.lastname@example.org and we will see if this can be satisfied via our document supply service.
Please note that the water fountain has been removed temporarily. So please bring your own bottled water.
WCs and washing facilities remain available and hand sanitiser is available here and within the Library.
