Researching Treaties
What is the procedure for treaties that involve UK dependencies and
overseas territories?
The UK
government is responsible for the defence and international relations of
dependent and overseas territories. Given this the UK signs treaties on
their behalf. However, the dependencies and overseas territories must
be given time to consider the terms of the treaty. The UK will then
ratify the treaty on behalf of the territory or dependency.
