Library Services and Covid-19

The Library team is endeavouring to provide a remote enquiry and document supply service for members during the time that the Library at Fetter Lane is closed and staff are working from home.

Further details of our current services and resources can be viewed here.

Subject Guides to Online Resources

During the Coronavirus crisis access to resources is restricted. We will be publishing a series of subject guides outlining electronic resources to which the Library currently has access. They will include key textbooks, law reports, journals and free web sources.

The first subject guide we have put together is for Criminal Law and can be found here.

Easter Closure

The Library will not be dealing with enquiries over Easter (from Friday 10 to Monday 13 April).

Library Services Update

The Library continues to offer a limited but free document delivery service from 9.00 a.m. – 5.00 p.m. on weekdays for the barristers of all four Inns and is collaborating with the other Inns where there might be opportunities to access different databases. Details can be found on the Library website. The Current Awareness Blog continues to be produced on a daily basis and the Library is curating relevant online content for those with an interest in law including TV programmes and films and law-related podcasts (Lockdown Law Pods).

Coronavirus Situation

Taking into consideration the current Coronavirus situation, we have decided to close the Library for the foreseeable future. We will continue to monitor the government guidelines and hope to be able to resume library services as soon as we possibly can.

We are offering a limited document delivery service between 9.00 a.m. and 5.00 p.m. Monday-Friday for barrister members of all four Inns. There will be no charge during the coronavirus situation, but the relevant form (Judicial Proceedings or Private Research) must be completed. The forms are available on our website.

Opening Hours

From Monday 23 March the Library is closed to visitors until further notice.

Saturday opening of all four Inn Libraries has been suspended with immediate effect.

Lexis®PSL

We are now subscribing to the Lexis®PSL service, which we have been trialling for some time. This provides practice notes, forms, precedents, commentary and current awareness for 35 practice areas. These include Arbitration, Banking & Finance, Commercial, Competition, Construction, Corporate, Corporate Crime, Dispute Resolution, Employment, Energy, Environment, Family, Financial Services, Immigration, In-House, Information Law, Insurance & Reinsurance, Intellectual Property & Information Technology, Life Sciences, Local Government, Pensions, Personal Injury, Planning, Practice Compliance, Practice Management, Private Client, Property, Property Disputes, Public Law, Restructuring & Insolvency, Risk and Compliance, Share Incentives, Tax, TMT, and Wills and Probate.

The service is available within the Library and we also have a limited number of log-ins which will allow us to make the service available by remote access to Inner Temple members who are practising barristers. Priority will be given to barristers outside London who are unable to visit the Library in person.

Please email LexisPSL@innertemple.org.uk if you are interested in accessing this service remotely.

International Women’s Day

For International Women’s Day this year, we took a look at women who have killed in response to domestic abuse and their experience in the criminal justice system. On the other side of the bench: https://www.innertemplelibrary.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/on-the-other-side-of-the-bench.pdf
