Margaret Clay, who has been Librarian and Keeper of Manuscripts since 1991, retired at the end of July. Her successor is Robert Hodgson, who is currently Law Librarian at City University. He will be joining the Inn in November.
The July issue includes summer opening hours for the four Inn Libraries; an update on Library services during the COVID-19 situation (including the latest offer: free access to ICLR Online); an appreciation of our departing Librarian and a vote of thanks to her former deputy; online initiatives (for example, a virtual induction for new students, virtual tours for prospective members, new subject guides to web resources); reflections by staff on Working from Home; and a feature on the Hong Kong section of AccessToLaw.
During the COVID-19 crisis and the temporary closure of the Inner Temple Library, as access to resources is restricted, we are producing a series of subject guides outlining the electronic resources to which the Library currently has access. They include key textbooks, law reports, journals, laws and free web sources. Our latest guide on India Law is now on the website.
The Inn Libraries are currently planning to reopen to members in July. The Libraries will open on a rota basis throughout July and August. After this the opening arrangements will be subject to review. Please note that the Inner Temple Library will be operating a booking system for admission.
We are working hard to provide as robust a Library service as possible in these difficult circumstances and are aware of our users’ need for access to legal materials.
That being the case, we will be continuing to provide a free document supply service via email to members of the Inns of Court wherever they are working.
In addition, our librarians are available to answer your enquiries via email, Monday to Friday from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.
